A Fragrance To Share This Christmas
It’s beginning to smell a lot Christmas. You’ve got the tree up, Christmas day is planned and the countdown to the 25th is on, but are you still searching for a last-minute Christmas gift or ‘icing on top of the Christmas cake’ finishing touch? Look no further.
Our Quintessence Eau de Parfum is the perfect pressie for your other half, your best friend, a special family member or a treat for you to indulge in after all the panic that comes with the silly season.
Here are 3 reasons why our Quintessence fragrance is our go-to Christmas gift.
A fragrance to share
So, what is in the name Quintessence? Developed with both men and women in mind, the fifth element at Avant Skincare is a refined fragrance.
Quintessence is the step further that blur the clusters between beauty made for men and beauty made for women – and marks the true nature of a ‘fragrance to share’.
As a floral amber fragrance with sweet, warm hues, a splash of citrus and a spicy note, Quintessence Eau de Parfum is a genderless perfume that stands for the complementary element in your beauty regime and is one that everyone can enjoy.
Quintessence has distinctive top notes of elemi, infused with mandarin, which blends with the zestiness of orange blossom to bring a vibrant freshness to the top notes.
At the heart, the uplifting scent reminiscent of warm moonlit walks and Mediterranean nights when Jasmine becomes its most potent.
This intoxicating and refined scent begins with the heady florals of Jasmine with an unexpected twist of refreshingly sweet Orris and Plum.
As for the base notes, earthy and woody Patchouli and Vanilla, Praline, White Musk create the perfect foundation for a sultry scent and its considered blends are suitable for unisex. This modern and shareable classic is the epitome of sophistication, no matter who the recipient is.
Leave a lasting impression
There is nothing better than a gift where the gift-giver has genuinely taken the time to think about what the recipient would to receive. Amongst the clutter of Christmas chocolates, another duplicated set of winter mittens and more scarves than days in winter, perfume shines out as one of the most personal and thoughtful presents someone can buy.
Studies have also shown that fragrance and specific scents can affect your mood.
“Scents can have positive effects on mood, stress reduction, sleep enhancement, self-confidence, and physical and cognitive performance,” says Theresa Molnar, executive director of the Sense of Smell Institute, the research and educational arm of the perfume industry's Fragrance Foundation. Our Quintessence Eau de Parfum boasts scents of citrus hues, known to uplift, and comprises of amber and spicy notes, which can evoke confidence.
Give the gift that won’t be re-gifted
Gifting can always be a bit of a gamble but we can guarantee that a perfume will not be shunned to the pile of unwanted presents.
Perfume is a daily essential that all gift-receivers will appreciate and it’ll last a lot longer than Christmas chocolates.
Not only are you giving someone something that they actually need, but you’re also saving them a trip to their local department store for a perfume top up later down the line.
Is indie fragrance being overlooked?
New indie fragrance brands often align closely with contemporary consumer trends: natural ingredients, personalization, travel-friendly, sustainable, mindful, etc. This gives the brands access to a dedicated consumer base but also keeps them a bit hidden from the mainstream fragrance shopper.
Natural and flexible scents
Cosmetics Design had been covering news of a brand called Pour le Monde for nearly 5 years now. The brand is an all-natural fine fragrance brand and was an early proponent of the fragrance wardrobing concept that so many beauty consumers enjoy today.
“That’s in contrast to a time when signature scents went hand-in-hand with meticulously groomed and fairly ridged identities,” wrote Cosmetics Design in a 2015 item about Pour le Monde.
“Millennials don’t want signature anything and there are now more choices and options [for everyone],” Pour le Monde founder Wendi Berger told Cosmetics Design at the time.
Still, the brand’s biggest consumer—millennial or otherwise—is the clean and natural consumer.
Astrology, crystals, and aromatherapy are just some of the things that mindful lifestyle product brands leverage to calm and connect with today’s always-on consumer.
Zodica Perfumery is a fragrance brand Wisconsin, founded by Kristi Moe, that is all about scent and astrology. The collection is, as Cosmetics Design has reported, “meant to be worn in three ways: by sign, by season, or by attraction.
” The brand concept isn’t only about the zodiac, it’s also about efficiency. What Moe has created is a shortcut to finding scents that speak to individual consumers, those purchasing for themselves as well as those buying fragrance as gifts.
It’s part of the reason why Zodica Perfumery does well as an ecommerce and video commerce brand.
Consumer trends and environmental concerns have made solid and waterless beauty products more sophisticated and more popular. At Othús Perfumery, Colleen Keenan Nelms has created a collection of solid scents that are at once small-batch, artisanal, and contemporary.
“We create solid eau de parums in portable, twist-up tubes that can fit in a pocket, handbag or palm of the hand,” explains Keenan Nelms in her Indie Beauty Profile. “Our customers appreciate being able to apply these perfumes throughout the day and while on the go, making it easy to consider them their best travel companion,” she says.
A fragrance legacy
Caswell-Massey has been an indie fragrance brand for hundreds of years. The original American fragrance maker has updated its business in recent years and is currently meeting long-time customers and shoppers discovering Caswell Massey for the first time at a pop-up shop in New York City.
And Caswell-Massey is keeping up-to-date with collabs and the naturals movement too. The brand has teamed up with the New York Botanical Garden and Yellowstone National Park on contemporary collections of American scents. Caswell-Massey president Nick Arauz calls the Yellowstone Living Florals Collection “one of the most remarkable projects our company has undertaken.”
Deanna Utroske, CosmeticsDesign.com Editor, covers beauty business news in the Americas region and publishes the weekly Indie Beauty Profile column, showcasing the inspiring work of entrepreneurs and innovative brands.

Gone Are the Days of the Do-It-All-Scent: Fragrance Wardrobing and Perfume Mood-Matching Are Here to Stay
For decades, the dominant philosophy in the scent world has been this: pick a scent (a signature scent) and make that scent the key driver of your unique scent profile. A few adventurous renegades carved their own path, choosing from a wider range of scents each day and matching their perfume with their outfits or moods.
This is starting to catch on. The vast majority of those who wear perfume will still choose a single scent for everyday use, but you don’t have to swim with the current. You can join the fragrance wardrobing trendsetters. Here’s how:
What is fragrance wardrobing?
While there used to be a handful of reliable perfume producers, there are now hundreds of them. The old stalwarts are still making great scents, but they’ve been joined by countless upstarts, each of them trying to get their foot in the door. With a world of choices at your fingertips, it’s time to consider thinking differently about your perfume regime.
This starts with looking at your dominant perfume philosophy. Fragrance wardrobing is all about scent promiscuity. Rather than choosing one scent that can come to define us, we can choose from a number of scents—each one matched more carefully with what we’re wearing and how we’re feeling.
The best way to start fragrance wardrobing is when you’re preparing for an event. It doesn’t have to be a gala ball or a black-tie affair; a date night or a girls’ night out will do just fine. Pick your outfit well ahead of time and take a picture of yourself in it. Bring this picture to the perfume counter and ask them to show you something that matches the outfit and the occasion.
You can get the ball rolling with a special occasion, and in time you can add other fragrances suited to other moods and occasions. Soon you’ll have a selection of scents (and a growing scent profile).
Setting your fragrance wardrobe
There are really no strict rules in fragrance wardrobing. There’s no failsafe guide to what kinds of scents go well with thoughtful or jubilant moods, or for what kinds of scents are perfect for backless gowns or long-sleeve affairs. The key is to get to know yourself better—particularly what kind of scents you enjoy, and how your shifting moods might change these preferences.
It’s about expanding your scent profile. Everybody needs a good basic fragrance. This is your everyday workhorse, and it’ll probably be the same one you’ve been using for some time. If something is working, it should still play a significant role in your scent profile.
If your current scent of choice is conservative, try something bold and daring. If you’ve been wearing a bold scent for years, try something more delicate. There’ll be a mood and outfit just right for your new scent.
With each new fragrance you add to your scent profile, you’ll be opening up new possibilities.
One for power suits and meeting days; another for sunny walks in the park; another for date night; and still another for fire-lit evenings.
of You just need to know yourself more before you get yourself different perfumes. Sometimes, the more you play with scent, the more you get to know which ones suit your mood and personality better. However, a scent profile will help you bigtime.
You’ll quickly learn that your everyday perfume was, at best, only partially suited to certain moods and occasions. Just as you might always reach for that one black top when you need a confidence boost, you’ll learn to reach for a particular bottle of perfume when you want to feel a queen or sexier than Beyoncé.
A fragrance for every mood; a fragrance for every outfit
For when you’re feeling sexy, attractive and sensual
Try out spice-laden and provocative fragrances to go with your sensual moods or outfits. These scents often help those who are a little on the buttoned-down side to let go of some of their inhibitions and explore their sexual nature. Even if you aren’t aiming to seduce, you’ll feel desirable—and that’s a huge confidence booster.

- Dolce & Gabbana Intense
- Playboy Play It Sexy
- Gucci Guilty
- Carolina Herrera 212 Sexy
- Thierry Mugler Alien
- Dior Poison
For when you’re feeling royal, elegant and prestigious
For elegant outfits and high-class occasions reach for the distinguished and elegant perfumes. This is the mood with the widest range of difference.
Some people prefer something bold, others a more subdued scent (depending on how they feel when they are in luxurious surroundings or clothing). Certain fragrance hit this mood right on the head, though.
These tend to be a touch on the pricey side, but they’re expensive for good reason. If in doubt, try a musky or woody accord.
- Creed’s Royal Oud
- Tom Ford Tobacco Oud
- Jovan Musk
- Versace Woman
- Sarah Jessica Parker Twilight
- Calvin Klein Obsession
- Gucci Premiere
If you really want to wow the room, try out on these top-shelf elegant perfumes:
- Clive Christian No.1
- Joy Jean Patou
- Ralph Lauren Notorious
- Chanel No.5
For when you’re feeling light and uncomplicated
For those free-spirited and easy-go-lucky moods, you’ll want to keep something light and airy on hand. A heady scent combines uneasily with ear-to-ear grins and casual clothes, so best to keep those on the shelf when you’re keeping things simple. When things are free and easy, your scent should be light and breezy.
- Jo Malone’s French Lime Blossom Cologne
- Philosophy’s Amazing Grace
- Dior Eau Fraiche
- Chanel’s Cristalle Eau Verte
- Dolce & Gabbana’s Light Blue
- Ralph Lauren Fresh
- Moschino Fresh Couture
For when you’re feeling romantic or loving
This uncontainable flood of emotion is, for many of us, our deepest, warmest feeling. The perfume world is crowded with floral, sweet and romantic scents, so you’ll be a little spoiled for choice. Rather than settling on the first one you try, sample a wide range of them and pick the one that makes you think of romantic times.
- Dior Diorissimo
- Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb
- Calvin Klein Eternity
- Marc Jacobs Daisy
- Ralph Lauren Romance
- Lancome Magie Noire
- Victoria’s Secret Amber Romance
These are, of course, only some of the moods. You might feel one of them in the morning, another in the afternoon, and still another at night.
Broadening your scent profile through perfume wardrobing and mood matching will give you the ability to match your mood to a tee. Be creative, be bold, be adventurous. Express what you feel in the moment.
Let your clothes match your mood, and let your scent match both.

Boost Your Fragrance Sales with”Fragrance Wardrobing”
Today’s woman will purchase several fragrances to suit life events, occassions, or activities.
Why own 1 bottle of perfume when you can own several? The mentality that, at one time, only applied to shoes, clothes, and accessories is now the trend in fragrance! The idea of having a “signature scent” has “evaporated” and has been replaced with the idea of having several scents suited toward the event, occasion, or activity. A concept that can be beneficial for any fragrance retailer!
This fragrance trend is said to have originated in the United States where identity is more “flexible.” Long gone are the days where women identify themselves as a working woman, housewife, mom, etc. Today’s woman has several identities and will purchase an average of 5 to 8 scents to match the energy and experience of each occasion.1
When introducing Fragrance Wardrobing to your customers start with base fragrances that go on your favorite pair of blue jeans!
When introducing a customer to the idea of fragrance wardrobing, we the advice of Sonia Rykiel, a fashion designer and perfume maker, who says to treat it a fashion wardrobe, begin with a base scent and then add others, “just you would add a belt to an outfit.
”2 So for someone who is a fan of the clean, powdery notes of TerraNova’s China Rain, a great add-on would be something TerraNova’s China Musk, which has notes of citrus and vanilla.
Both notes are inoffensive and pretty much go with everything a pair or blue jeans or white shirt.
Another wardrobing recommendation would be something with notes of rose or jasmine, which Rykiel relates to the proverbial “little black dress of fragrances.
”2 Something Terranova’s China Lily, with notes of Pink Chinese Jasmine, would be a great wardrobe add-on for someone looking for a fragrance to wear for an evening out that little black dress with the simple pearl necklace as an accessory.
Fragrance Wardrobing can be easily accomplished with TerraNova’s Traditions line featuring 4 Classic fragrances and the recent introduction of 4 NEW original creations!
Want to give your fragrance sales a boost? Give fragrance wardrobing a try! By adding TerraNova’s NEW Traditions Collection (i.e.
Lotus Blush, Ile de Santal, Oceana, and Fig & Sambac) to your existing TerraNova Traditions Classics (i.e.
China Rain, China Musk, China Lily, and Patchouli), for instance, you’ll be able to help stimulate add-on sales with your existing TerraNova fan-base and attract new customers to your TerraNova line.
Cash in on this exciting trend today with TerraNova’s Annual Fragrance Event happening June 1st through June 30th!
