Blackheads usually develop after puberty, when hormone levels surge and reach the skin. The presence of higher levels of hormones in the skin triggers the stimulation of the sebaceous glands, which produce oily substances. The sebaceous glands produce too much oil in the pores, which accumulates and gets stuck. When the occluded oil is exposed to air it becomes black. Blackheads are said to be the first stage of acne.
Black head pimples are non-inflammatory, that is, without the redness and soreness that accompanies other pimples. Blackheads most frequently appear on and around the nose, but also can occur on the rest of the face, ears, shoulders and back. There are many reasons why people get blackheads:
- Blackheads appears when you do not clean your skin properly
- Over production of oil by glands
- Using greasy cosmetic and hair products
- Hormonal changes
- Using too much make-up
We use both traditional and modern technology in our clinic.
We use Excimer lasers which deliver ultraviolet light that is similar to that emitted in narrowband UVB therapy but more effective. It targets very specific areas of skin and help treat blackhead faster and at lower doses while sparing the healthy skin around it.
